1. Initiation Exercises
Initiation Exercises
In order to create your future, we need to first look at the present. By taking a look at the reality of your life today, you can begin to look at what is possible for your self in the future.
Below you will find a unique exercise called the Wheels of Well-being. Please read all of the instructions carefully before starting the exercise. The Wheels of Well-being will be revisited periodically over the course of the year so you can observe the changes in your life.

You will notice that energy,
passion, creativity, flexibility, love and joy are the spokes of the
rear wheel of the bike. When
pedaling a bike all the power of your push goes into powering the rear wheel.
Essentially the rear wheel is where the juice is.
I like to think of energy, passion, creativity, flexibility, love and joy
as the “juice of life”. The
areas of well-being in the front wheel move because of the juice created by you
pedaling the rear wheel.
Now it is time to rate the
“Juice” wheel and the “Well-being” wheel.
Each spoke of the wheel is a rating system.
The closer to the hub of the wheel (center) the closer to 0% potential
you are reaching in this area. The
outer area of the spoke, closest to the wheel represents you reaching 100% of
your potential in this area. Before
marking the spokes, read the definition for each area below.
Then mark the spoke by putting a small mark in the area that represents
where you feel you are experiencing life at TODAY, relative to what you think
your potential is. If you feel you
are reaching 50% of your potential then the mark is placed in the middle of the
spoke.
Mark each spoke of the wheel. Next to the mark write in the percentage that you are representing by the mark. After you have completed both wheels then connect the marks.
How round is your wheel? To
create a rounder wheel will mean putting some time into yourself, trying new
things, having new experiences, learning new things, creating new habits and
routines.
In the Living to be One Hundred and Beyond Club we look at improving the
juice wheel first. It will power
change in the front “Well-being” wheel.
Energy – our body is made up of energy. The energy in your body vibrates at a certain frequency and
that vibration flows through your body. You
control your energy by your words, thoughts and actions (including what you
chose to eat, where you chose to live etc…).
Do you feel like you have an abundance of energy?
Passion – The drive to move forward in achieving our dreams in all
areas of our life. How passionate
we feel will depend greatly on how congruent we are in living out our dreams in
life. Passion comes from aligning
your world with how your mind/body wants to be.
Are you Passionate?
Creativity – The way the body/mind expresses itself.
Through the arts, music, conversation, materials, sound, movement,
breath, thought and visualization we can be creative.
Creativity comes from the inside. Are
you Creative?
Love – Being at a state of acceptance and appreciation for other
human beings and living creatures. Are
you Loving?
Joy – The experience of bliss and deep peaceful connection to the
inner self. Are you Joyful?
Flexibility – To be open to change in your life often reflects the flexibility in the spine and the soft tissues of the body. Are you flexible?

Number
one (flexibility challenge):
Go to bed and wake up 30 minutes earlier than you usually do.
Take 20 of those minutes to do your normal routine, but slower and more
attentively. Pay attention to
everything you do in the morning and really experience each moment.
For example, pay attention to the feeling of showering, washing your
body and your hair. Notice how
you interact with your family if they are up with you.
Notice how your food tastes. If
you leave the house in the morning, leave ten minutes earlier than normal.
Be aware of how you feel with the extra time getting to where you need
to go. In your day timer
schedule the day you will try this.
Number
two (love challenge):
Acknowledge five people for who they are to you.
An example of how to start the conversation would be to say, “(name
of person), I wanted to acknowledge you for being such a great friend, or
wonderful husband, etc..). In
your day timer write the names of the five people you would like to
acknowledge.
Number
three (love challenge):
Write down the name of an old friend that you have lost touch with for
more than six months. Then write
down the day of the week you are going to call them (not email).
Try using the conversation to reconnect and to plan something for the
future.
Number
four (creativity challenge):
Write down one thing that you would really like to do, but never have
time. It could be a social
activity, it could be dancing, it could be a sporting activity, it could be
travel, and it could be spending time with family.
Then schedule the day you are going to do it.
One-week prior schedule any calls to people you need to invite or plan
with.
Number
five (energy challenge):
Schedule
a nutritional consultation with a registered holistic nutritionist.
Our energy comes from what we put into our body.
This is the most critical of all the challenges this month.
I recommend Liz Clarke who practices out of the Glendon Athletic Club.

this newsletter and you will receive a 5% discount if you book your
nutritional consultation prior to November 30, 2005.
Number one (flexibility and creativity challenge): Plan one day out of the month that you are going to be completely flexible in what happens and what you do. During that day you may plan for yourself something completely out of the ordinary that stretches you as a person. For instance, you may not be much of a cook, so you may want to grab a cook book and have someone else pick a meal for you to prepare. Another example would be to walk down the street and say "hello" to people as they pass you by. If you hear a street musician that you really appreciate, flip them some change if you don't normally. The idea is to think outside of the box. To start seeing what else is possible in your life. In your daytimer write in the key words "flexibility and creativity". That will be a day out of the ordinary.
Number two (passion challenge): This challenge will have you take look at your life and ask yourself were you are feeling congruent/in line with what is occurring for you. A good way to know if things are congruent in your life is to think of things in your life and then listening to the body's response. For example you may say to yourself, "How do I feel about my career?", "How do I feel about my health?", "how do I feel about my significant relationships?", "How do I feel about my life?" When you have asked a question, listen to the body for the answer. You may feel warmth, excitement, higher energy, a sense of love, joy or passion. You may also feel lower energy, a loss of power, resentment, frustration, and other types of emotions. Listening to what the body tells you will help you determine without analyzing your life mentally, what is working for you and what isn't. It can help guide you to make different choices and take different actions. The purpose of this exercise is to give you an easy way to recognize what raises your energy and makes you feel more alive! In your day timer write in the key word "Passion". That indicates the day you will spend some time listening to your body.
Number three (love challenge): This challenge was inspired by a practice member who is very fond of Stephen Covey's books, thanks. The challenge has to do with listening first and then speaking. Listening is the highest form of respect that you can give another person. The challenge is to listen first, then speak once you've listened and the other person is done speaking. It is important to be engaged when listening, which means to be making eye contact, or to visualize what the person is saying in your mind as they speak. These actions improve the connection into the other person's world and will improve the depth, connection and outcome with the conversation. Try this challenge every day for this month. In your daytimer write in the key word "listening" for every day of the month.Number four (love challenge): Integrity is a crucial part of self love. Integrity means to be your word to yourself and to others. In other words if you say you are going to do something than you do it. Commit to being in 100% integrity for one day of the week for all four weeks of that month. That means for this coming month, you will have either 4 Mondays or 4 Tuesdays etc.. that counts as your integrity day. On that day you make all the commitments that you say you are going to make. For instance. You are on time for everything you have planned that day. You keep your dietary and exercise commitments. You complete any tasks you said you would complete. You phone people you said you phone. You wake up when you say you will wake up, etc... If for any circumstance you break your integrity, then clean it up with yourself or the person(s) that was/were impacted. The suggested conversation is as follows: I apologize for not ________, it won't happen again, you can expect __________ from me in the future. While doing this exercise be aware of how much effort it takes to be in integrity 100%. How does it feel when you are in integrity and how does it feel when you clean up any lack of integrity. In your daytimer write the key word "integrity" on the day you chose.
Number Five (energy challenge): To optimize the nutritional component of your health, we recommend that you eat well and take nutritional supplements. Month 1 we recommended consulting a holistic nutritionist to improve your nutritional well-being. Nutritional supplements take it one step further by assuring that all nutritional requirements are met by the body. If the body is lacking a vitamin or mineral your body will not be as finely tuned as it could be. There are many brands to chose from and many of them are poor quality so become educated about supplementation prior to purchasing. We recommend Melaleuca www.melaleuca.com brand or going to Water Lily on Yonge St. and speaking with Usha, who is very knowledgeable about supplements and only stocks the best of each brand. One of the most important features of a supplement is how much is absorbed into the body. Don't be fooled by television advertising, the good brands don't need advertising. In your daytimer write in the key word "energy". That means on that day you will buy supplements to get started. If you need any further assistance call our practice and we will help you.
